Integrated Safety Management System

What is an Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) ?

ISMS provides organisation goal setting, planning, and measuring performance. It defines how it intends the management of air safety to be conducted as an integral part of the organisation’s business management activities. A Safety Management System is woven into the fabric of an organization. It becomes part of the culture; the way people do their jobs.

Integrated Safety Management System is proactive by taking an approach that emphasizes prevention, through hazards identification and risk control and mitigation measures, before events that affect safety occur. It is also explicit, in that all safety management activities are documented, visible and performed as an essential component of management activities.

It is an integrated system which includes the people, procedures, practices and technology needed to monitor and improve the safety of the aviation transportation system. By identifying, assessing and eliminating or controlling safety-related hazards and risks, acceptable levels of safety will be achieved.

There are five features that characterise our integrated Safety Management System:

  • A comprehensive systematic approach to the management of aviation safety within the maintenance organisation,
including the interfaces between the company and its suppliers, sub-contractors and business partners.
  • A principal focus on the hazards of the business and their effects upon those activities critical to safety.
  • The full integration of safety considerations into the business, via the application of management controls to all aspects
of the business processes critical to safety.
  • The use of active monitoring and audit processes to validate that the necessary controls identified through the hazard management process are in place and to ensure continuing active commitment to safety.
  • The use of Quality Assurance principles, including improvement and feedback mechanisms.
